There are 9 places recorded on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage register.

Six new places have been recorded since July 2016.

The register is established and maintained under Part 5 of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 and the Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003. All information recorded on the register is available to the public.

The register includes information contained in cultural heritage studies carried out under Part 6 of the legislation, which provides formal processes for undertaking a comprehensive study to assess the cultural heritage significance of an area.

The addition of 6 places to the register suggests that some Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parties have seen a benefit to recording significant places on the register as opposed to merely recording site locations on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage database.

North

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage register records 2 places for the North Cultural Heritage Region.

No new places have been recorded since July 2016.

The register is established and maintained under Part 5 of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 and the Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003. All information recorded on the register is available to the public.
