Queensland
There has been an increase in the number of cultural heritage management plans approved under Part 7 of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 and the Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003 since July 2015.
A total of 71 plans were approved between July 2015 and 31 March 2020.
Since legislation commenced in 2004, 413 cultural heritage management plans have been approved.
These plans must be developed and approved under Part 7 of the legislation for all projects where an environmental impact statement is required. Cultural heritage management plans can also be developed voluntarily.
The increase in registered cultural heritage management plans since July 2015 is consistent with an increase in major development projects in some parts of the State over this period. This increase suggests increasing pressure on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage from major projects.
North
A steady number of cultural heritage management plans have been approved under Part 7 of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 and the Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003 since 2012.
A total of 11 plans were approved for North Cultural Heritage Region from July 2015 to March 2020.
A cultural heritage management plan must be developed and approved under Part 7 of the legislation for all projects where an environmental impact statement is required. Cultural heritage management plans can also be developed voluntarily.
A total of 413 plans have been approved statewide since the legislation commenced in 2004.

Cultural heritage management plans can also be developed voluntarily.
