Increase in heavy vehicles

Key Finding

Almost 10 times the number of light commercial vehicles were on-road in Queensland compared with heavy freight vehicles as at 30 June 2019.  The number of registered light commercial vehicles has more than doubled since 30 June 2001; the number of heavy freight vehicles has increased by 49% in the same period.

Commercial vehicles potentially have greater emissions that affect public health and the environment. Commercial vehicles include light and heavy vehicles.

More light and heavy commercial vehicles are registered on-road.

The number of registered light commercial vehicles increased by about 31,000 registrations — a 3% increase on the previous year (as at 30 June 2018). Heavy freight vehicle registrations increased by 2% on the previous year (as at 30 June 2018).

Since 30 June 2001, light commercial vehicle registrations has more than doubled while the number of heavy freight vehicles has increased 49% over the same period.
