Key finding
In 2016–2017, about 53,000t of household waste generated interstate was transported to Queensland for disposal.
Household waste (municipal solid) is waste generated by domestic activities. It includes waste collected from households via kerbside services, from public place bins, or self-hauled by residents to council facilities.
Queensland landfills received about 53,000t of household waste generated interstate in 2016-2017. This was an increase from an average of 42,500t per year over the previous 3 years.
