Interstate household waste received

Key Finding

In 2018–19, about 67,400 tonnes of household waste generated interstate was transported to Queensland for disposal.

Household waste (municipal solid) is waste generated by domestic activities. It includes waste collected from households via kerbside services, from public place bins, or self-hauled by residents to council facilities.

Nearly 1,700 tonnes of household waste generated interstate went to recyclers in 2018–19. A further 65,700 tonnes of household waste generated interstate went into Queensland landfill.

This was an increase from an average of about 45,000 tonnes per year over the previous three years
