Key finding
The most significant threats from fragmentation are limited to the smaller, more isolated reserves, primarily in the New South Wales section of the property.

The Gondwana Rainforests of Australia is a serial property comprised of eight separate groups of reserves, containing 40 component parts. There are concerns relating to the small size of some of the component parts of the property. However, for the Queensland sections, the long-term conservation and continuation of natural biological processes of the values for which the property was inscribed, are considered secure given the nature of the consolidated reserve network. The reserve configuration of some sections of the Queensland components of the World Heritage area are linear. For these, the area/boundary ratio increases exposure to threats, such as fire, weed and pathogen invasion, and potentially impacts natural biological processes. However, on balance the Outstanding Universal Value of the property is secured through the large reserves which represent the overwhelming majority of the World Heritage area.
For Queensland sections of the serial property this threat is considered as low.
