Key finding
Increased tourism on Fraser Island World Heritage site is acting as a driver for a number of threats.
Tourist numbers have doubled since inscription on the World Heritage List in 1992 and tourism has the potential to be a key threat to Fraser Island’s World Heritage values.
Increased visitation can result in local degradation of the perched freshwater dune lakes which are significant in terms of number, diversity and age.
